Become a certified PADI Open Water Diver in just three easy steps!

Start with an interactive e-learning from the comfort of your own home, followed by a live virtual classroom session with Mike to review and ask questions. Next, you’ll dive into two guided pool sessions to master your skills in a controlled environment at the Naugatuck YMCA.

Because this is our Referral Program, you’ll then jet off to your dream destination to wrap up your open-water dives. Simply book and pay for your final open water training at your destinations local PADI shop, and you’ll surface with essential scuba skills, unshakable confidence, and the freedom to explore the world’s most spectacular dive sites.

Course Prerequisites

  • Minimum Age 10
    (10–14 year-olds earn a Junior Open Water Diver referral; full Open Water Diver at age 15)

  • Complete a Swim Test

    (Must be able to swim 200 yards unassisted, any stroke. Must be able to tread water unassisted for 10 minutes, head above water)

  • Complete Paperwork
    (Liability Release & Assumption of Risk, Standard Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding and Diver Medical Form)

Gear Requirements

  • Personal gear: Students must bring their own dive mask and dive booties—these items are highly personal for fit and comfort.

  • Provided gear: All other equipment is included (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, tanks, weights).

Course Timeline

  • E-Learning at your own pace in the comfort of your home

  • 90 minute virtual classroom session.

  • 2 days in the pool for our 5 confined water dives (with Finn’s Up Dive School).

  • 2 days in the ocean for your 4 open water dives (with the PADI dive shop at your travel destination).

  • You have up to 12 months from starting your Open Water Diver eLearning to complete both the theory and water-skills portions of the course. After certification, your card is good for life!
