E-lEarning
Start your dive journey with self-paced online eLearning from the comfort of your own home. You’ll then join us for a classroom session where we’ll break down dive theory, equipment basics, safety tips, and answer any of your questions.

PHASE 2
Confined Water
Your first in-water experience happens in a warm, comfortable pool at the YMCA! Across two fun-filled days (4 hours each), you’ll build confidence as you master core scuba skills and complete all required training in a calm, low-stress setting.

Open Water
The grand finale, your Open Water Weekend! Either complete your final four ocean dives right here in New England with Finn’s Up, or choose the referral program and finish during your next getaway with a PADI / SDI dive shop at your travel destination!

Become a certified diver in just three easy steps!
Start with an interactive e-learning from the comfort of your own home, followed by an in-person or virtual classroom session with Mike to review and ask questions.
Next, you’ll dive into two guided pool sessions to master your skills in a controlled environment at the Naugatuck YMCA.
Finally, it’s Open Water Weekend and time for the ocean — day one in scenic Stonington, CT, and day two at the stunning Fort Wetherill in Rhode Island. You’ll finish the course with rock-solid confidence, essential scuba skills, and the freedom to explore the world’s most incredible dive sites.

Course Prerequisites
Minimum Age 10
(10–14 year-olds earn a Junior Open Water Diver referral; full Open Water Diver at age 15)Complete a Swim Test
(Must be able to swim 200 yards unassisted, any stroke. Must be able to tread water unassisted for 10 minutes, head above water)
Complete Paperwork
Gear Requirements
Personal gear: Students must bring or purchase their own dive mask, snorkel, and dive boots — these items are highly personal for fit and comfort. We offer a student gear package which includes a mask, snorkel, boots, and fins that are yours to keep after certification. Contact us for more details.
Provided gear: All other equipment is included (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, tanks, weights).
Course Timeline
You have up to 12 months from starting your Open Water Diver eLearning to complete both the theory and water-skills portions of the course. After certification, your card is good for life and internationally recognized!
