PADI Discover SCUBA Diving
No experience? No problem.
Curious about scuba diving but not ready to commit to a full certification? The PADI Discover Scuba® Diving experience is the perfect way to get started.
You’ll begin with a short, interactive orientation to learn the basics of dive gear, equalization, and underwater communication. Then, join Mike for a guided pool session at the Naugatuck YMCA, where you’ll slip on scuba gear and take your first breaths underwater in a safe, controlled environment.
With personalized instruction, you’ll practice a few simple skills, gain confidence, and—most importantly—enjoy the feeling of weightlessness beneath the surface. No prior experience needed, just a sense of adventure!
By the end, you’ll know if scuba is for you—and you’ll have taken your very first step into an entirely new world.
Course Prerequisites
Minimum Age 10
(Kids younger than 10 aren’t eligible, though PADI offers Bubblemaker (minimum age 8) and Seal Team programs designed for younger children who want to try scuba in a pool setting)Water Comfortability
(Participants should be comfortable in the water — able to stand, float, or move around without panicking)
Complete Paperwork
(Liability Release & Assumption of Risk, Standard Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding and Diver Medical Form)
Gear Requirements
Personal gear: Students are encouraged (not required for Discover Scuba) to bring or purchase their own dive mask, snorkel, and dive boots — these items are highly personal for fit and comfort. We offer a student gear package which includes a mask, snorkel, boots, and fins that are yours to keep after certification. Contact us for more details.
Provided gear: All other equipment is included (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, tanks, weights).
