You’ll learn to anticipate and prevent problems, assist panicked divers, manage surface emergencies and coordinate rescues with confidence.

Course Prerequisites

  • PADI Open Water Diver

    (or equivalent from another agency)

  • Minimum age 12

    (12–14 earn a Junior Rescue Diver; upgrade to full Rescue Diver at 15)

  • Current CPR & First Aid certification

    (Emergency First Response or equivalent within the past 24 months)

  • Complete paperwork

    (Continuing Education Administrative Form & Diver Medical Form)

Gear Requirements

  • Personal gear: Students must bring their own dive mask and dive booties—these items are highly personal for fit and comfort.

  • Provided gear: All other equipment is included (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, fins, tanks, weights).

Course Timeline

  • E-Learning at your own pace in the comfort of your home

  • EFR training, 2 hours at the YMCA for practical pool-side training (if EFR not received in past 24 months)

  • 2 days in the ocean for our open water training dives!
